Friday afternoon gunfire in Williamsbridge left an 87-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man wounded, with both victims expected to recover. The shooting unfolded near Trinity Baptist Church, sending emergency crews rushing into the Bronx neighborhood.
According to News 12 Bronx, gunfire erupted just before 4 p.m. near East 224th Street and Barnes Avenue. The NYPD said the woman suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, while the teen was shot in the hip. EMS transported both victims to Jacobi Hospital, where they were expected to recover.
The initial account did not identify a suspect or explain what led to the shooting. It also did not indicate whether anyone had been arrested, leaving the circumstances of the gunfire unclear Friday night.
Williamsbridge Shooting Comes Amid Broader Citywide Decline
The violence stands out against a broader citywide decline in shootings reported by police. In a July 2 release, the NYPD said New York recorded 322 shooting incidents and 381 shooting victims during the first half of 2026, both record lows for that period, while major crime in the Bronx fell 12% year over year.
Those citywide figures offer context but do not answer the neighborhood-level questions raised by Friday’s shooting. The motive and possible suspect remained unclear as the two victims began recovering at Jacobi.
