A late-night gathering in Greensboro ended in gunfire early Sunday, leaving nine people injured — including four teenagers — and prompting police to take two men into custody near the scene. All nine victims were expected to survive, but the shooting has already pushed city officials into an uncomfortable conversation about overnight youth gatherings and a possible curfew.
Officers were called to Royal Banquet Hall around 1:50 a.m. after multiple 911 callers reported someone shooting inside, according to ABC45. Several victims had already driven themselves to local hospitals by the time officers arrived, police said.
Investigators said nine people were struck by gunfire, including a 15-year-old and three 17-year-olds. EMS treated another person at the scene for a minor graze wound, and that person was not taken to a hospital, according to News 4 San Antonio, which cited WXLV and the Greensboro Police Department.
Police Describe A Targeted Attack, Not Random Gunfire
Greensboro Police Chief Kamran Afzal said early evidence suggested that one individual targeted other people rather than everyone inside the event center. Police recovered multiple weapons and took two men into custody, but detectives had not announced charges and were still working to identify who was responsible, ABC45 reported.
The scene had already drawn officers once Saturday night, around 11:15 p.m., after reports of underage drinking, a possible weapon and overcrowding. Police said they did not find underage drinking or an armed person during that earlier response, per News 4 San Antonio.
Possible Curfew Discussion Follows Overnight Shooting
Greensboro City Manager Nathaniel “Trey” Davis said conversations about a possible curfew would follow the shooting, though no decision had been made. He said the safety of residents remained the city’s top priority, according to ABC45.
Police said there was no ongoing threat to the community and asked anyone with information or video to contact Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000, News 4 San Antonio reported. The investigation remains active, with charges still pending as authorities work to determine who fired and why.
