Alicia Keys' Hell's Kitchen Set for Columbus Debut at Historic Ohio Theatre

Alicia Keys' semi-autobiographical musical Hell's Kitchen is headed to downtown Columbus, with the Tony and Grammy Award-winning show set to make its local debut at the Ohio Theatre from June 15 through June 20, 2027. The run is part of the 2026-2027 PNC Broadway in Columbus season, and subscription ticket sales for the season launched on August 21.

News of the exact local dates and ticket window was reported by WSYX, which noted that CAPA is handling ticket sales for the engagement. Season subscribers get first priority on seats, while single tickets for the general public are expected to become available closer to the show's actual run date, according to CAPA.

A Landmark Venue With Its Own Survival Story

The Ohio Theatre itself carries plenty of local history. Built in 1928 by architect Thomas W. Lamb as a movie palace, the 2,791-seat venue was nearly torn down before a grassroots preservation effort saved it in 1969, and it was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1977, per CAPA. Hell's Kitchen will join a growing list of major touring productions to pass through the restored downtown theater.

The Columbus stop fits into a much larger circuit. The North American tour of Hell's Kitchen launched on October 10, 2025, and spans 45 cities through August 2027, with the tour also scheduled to stop at Dayton's Schuster Center in January 2027, according to the official Hell's Kitchen tour site. Columbus is one stop among many as the production makes its way across the country.

From Off-Broadway Premiere to Tony and Grammy Glory

Hell's Kitchen began as a sold-out world premiere at Off-Broadway's Public Theater in late 2023 before transferring to Broadway's Shubert Theatre on April 20, 2024. It ran for more than 700 performances before its Broadway run ended on February 22, 2026, as tracked by Broadway World.

At the 77th Tony Awards, held in New York on June 16, 2024, the Hell's Kitchen company performed at the ceremony as the show tied for the most nominations of any production that year with 13 nods. It won two awards, including Best Leading Actress in a Musical for Maleah Joi Moon and Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Kecia Lewis, according to CBS News. Alicia Keys, the show's creator, performed alongside members of the company at that same ceremony.

A Story Rooted in Keys' Own Childhood

Set in 1990s Manhattan, Hell's Kitchen is a coming-of-age story centered on a rebellious 17-year-old girl named Ali and her overprotective single mother, drawing on Alicia Keys' own youth growing up in Manhattan Plaza, a subsidized housing complex for artists. Keys discussed the personal roots of the story on The Kelly Clarkson Show in May 2024.

The production features a book by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz, direction by four-time Tony nominee Michael Greif, and choreography by four-time Tony nominee Camille A. Brown, blending new original songs with rearranged pop hits from Keys' discography, according to Broadway World. Tennis icon Serena Williams joined the production team as a co-producer in May 2026 as the show geared up for its multi-city tour, Hoodline previously reported.

Where It Fits in Columbus's Big Broadway Season

Hell's Kitchen is one of four local touring premieres in the 2026-2027 PNC Broadway in Columbus lineup, alongside Death Becomes Her, Maybe Happy Ending, and Operation Mincemeat. The nine-show season also brings back blockbusters Wicked and The Phantom of the Opera, rounding out what CAPA has billed as a packed year for the Ohio Theatre.
