A frightened man's report of a machete threat in north Harris County ended with deputies disarming and arresting the accused man last Thursday. Mike Alfaro was taken into custody after a male victim reportedly said Alfaro chased him, threatened to kill him and carried a machete in the 9000 block of Cypresswood Drive. Alfaro now faces an aggravated-assault charge with a $200,000 bond.
According to Mark Herman's office, deputies located Alfaro, disarmed him and detained him without further incident. He was booked into the Harris County Joint Processing Center, and the constable's office said he had been out on a separate $2,000 bond for interfering with public duties.
What Deputies Say Happened On Cypresswood
The public account says deputies were approached by a frightened male who identified Alfaro as the person allegedly chasing him with the weapon. It does not provide additional details about what started the confrontation, whether the men knew each other or whether anyone was injured.
Deputies then located Alfaro and took control of the machete before making the arrest. The incident was resolved without a further confrontation, according to the precinct's update, but the allegations still must be tested in court.
Aggravated Assault Charge And Bond
Alfaro was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, with bond set at $200,000 out of Harris County's 338th District Court. Under Texas Penal Code Section 22.02, aggravated assault can include using or exhibiting a deadly weapon during an assault and is generally a second-degree felony.
The constable's office did not release a detailed probable-cause affidavit, attorney information or a court date in its public alert. The Harris County Sheriff's Office describes the Joint Processing Center as the county's central intake and booking facility, and a booking or charge is not a finding of guilt.
