An overnight crash on northbound IH-35 left an unidentified pedestrian dead early Sunday, with Austin police investigating and the driver remaining at the scene.
Driver Stayed As APD Investigates 48th Fatal Crash
According to an update from the Austin Police Department, officers responded at approximately 12:30 a.m. to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 8100 block of northbound IH-35. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the motor vehicle driver remained and cooperated with the investigation.
The incident, tracked under case number 26-2140044, is being investigated as Austin’s 48th fatal crash of 2026 and the city’s 48th traffic fatality. APD’s traffic-fatality database warns that its figures are snapshots and can change as investigations continue.
As of the crash, APD’s update said Austin had recorded 48 fatal crashes resulting in 48 deaths in 2026, compared with 58 fatal crashes and 62 deaths at the same point in 2025.
