Houston police detectives are asking the public to help identify a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery that happened in the 2300 block of Bagby Street on August 2. The Houston Police Department's Robbery Division renewed its appeal for tips this week, and Crime Stoppers of Houston is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
The renewed request came Monday in a post from HPD's robbery unit that was retweeted by the department's main account, according to Houston Police. The post describes the account as the department's official channel and identifies the location of the robbery as the 2300 block of Bagby Street, but it does not include additional details about how the crime unfolded or whether the suspect was armed.
That stretch of Bagby sits in Midtown, a dense commercial and nightlife corridor that has drawn scrutiny before. Just months earlier, on April 24, HPD's Robbery Division sought help identifying two suspects who entered a business on the same block, brandished a weapon, and stole cash from the register, according to the Houston Police Department's Robbery Division. It is unclear whether the two incidents are connected.
A Recurring Trouble Spot in Midtown
The 2300 block of Bagby falls within HPD Central Patrol Division's Beat 1A20, a Midtown patrol zone bounded by the Pierce Elevated to the north, US-59/Spur 527 to the south, Louisiana Street to the east, and Bagby Street to the west, per the City of Houston. HPD's Central Division runs a Differential Response Team along that corridor, deploying bicycle patrols and education-enforcement strategies specifically to combat violent and property crime around commercial blocks like Bagby.
The Midtown Management District has also invested in surveillance technology to support those efforts. Beginning in May 2024, the district installed 25 Flock Security license plate reader cameras across the neighborhood, giving police automated, real-time alerts when suspect vehicles flee crime scenes, according to the Midtown Management District. It remains an open question whether that camera network, or any surveillance footage, captured the suspect leaving the scene of the August 2 robbery, or whether the person acted with a getaway driver.
Security coverage on the block is further reinforced by routine supplemental patrols from the Harris County Precinct 7 Constable's Office, which operates under a contract with the Midtown Management District to assist HPD officers with dispatch calls and patrol duties in the area.
Elevated Robbery Risk Citywide
Crime statistics from August 2026 show Midtown Houston carries an outsized robbery risk, with localized robbery indices measuring 93 percent above national averages, a trend that data firm DoorProfit attributes to the neighborhood's dense concentration of commercial foot traffic and nightlife venues. That backdrop helps explain why HPD and Midtown's management district have layered bicycle patrols, constable coverage, and camera networks onto a corridor that keeps generating robbery reports.
The legal stakes for whoever committed the August 2 robbery could vary widely depending on what investigators ultimately determine. Under Texas Penal Code Section 29.02, standard robbery is a second-degree felony carrying a mandatory two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000, according to Deandra Grant Law. But if investigators find that a deadly weapon was displayed or that the victim suffered serious bodily injury, Texas Penal Code Section 29.03 elevates the offense to aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony punishable by five to 99 years or life in prison, per the Sloane Law Firm.
