A stray shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out later Thursday, but the odds are low and no washout is expected. The National Weather Service says the bigger concern is the combination of heat and humidity, with heat-index values potentially reaching the mid- to upper 90s east of the Alleghenies.
Friday Brings A Better Shot At Storms
Friday will be cooler, with a high near 86 degrees, but the weather turns less settled after 2 p.m. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast during the afternoon, increasing into Friday night as clouds thicken and temperatures fall to around 71 degrees.
The storms should remain scattered rather than widespread, though any stronger cell could bring a brief downpour, frequent lightning or gusty winds. The forecast calls for a 20% chance of rain Friday afternoon and a 30% chance Friday night.
Saturday Offers A Brief Break
Saturday looks like the weekend's best bet for outdoor plans after a slight chance of early rain showers. Skies should turn mostly sunny, with a high near 87 degrees and lower humidity than Thursday and Friday.
That break may be short-lived. Showers and thunderstorms become more likely Sunday, with a 50% chance during the day and a 60% chance Sunday night, followed by additional storm chances Monday.
Drier Weather Returns Tuesday
Sunday and Monday storms could produce locally heavy rain and gusty winds, so outdoor plans may need a backup option, particularly late Sunday into Monday. By Tuesday, the pattern turns mostly sunny and somewhat drier, with a high near 88 degrees; Wednesday is expected to be sunny and close to 89 degrees.
