Sunny Saturday, Then A Much Wetter Sunday
Saturday should stay largely dry, with a light northeast breeze around 5 mph and only a 2% chance of rain. Overnight lows will settle near 73 degrees, with a slight chance of showers beginning after about 3 a.m. Sunday. By Sunday morning, the risk of rain and thunderstorms rises sharply.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected through much of Sunday, with an 80% chance of precipitation and a high near 84 degrees. Some storms could produce heavy rain, with forecast rainfall totals between three-quarters of an inch and 1 inch. South winds may gust as high as 21 mph, adding a little extra turbulence to an already soggy day, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday Could Be The Week's Weather Problem
The National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office says severe thunderstorms and some flash flooding are possible Sunday. Repeated storms could send water into poor-drainage and urban areas, while the strongest cells may bring damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes. Residents should check warnings before heading out and never drive through flooded roads.
The unsettled pattern may continue Sunday night, when thunderstorms are likely and temperatures fall only to around 75 degrees. Monday could begin with a stray shower, but skies should turn mostly sunny with a high near 90. That makes Monday warmer, but likely much less troublesome than Sunday.
Quieter Midweek, Another Storm Chance Thursday
Tuesday and Wednesday look like the forecast's easier stretch, with sunny skies and highs near 88 and 89 degrees, respectively. Another round of showers and thunderstorms may develop Thursday, when the rain chance reaches 40% and temperatures again approach 89 degrees. Friday is expected to be cooler, with a high near 84 and only a slight chance of showers or thunderstorms.
