Baltimore's own Met Gala is going full Mahogany this summer, with Diana Ross set to inspire an evening of fashion, art, food and Black cultural celebration. The fifth annual event is shaping up as a high-glamour tribute to one of the city's biggest creative showcases.
Scheduled for Saturday, August 29, from 5 to 10 p.m., the Baltimore MET Gala will take over The HALL at Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland, according to the Baltimore MET Gala. Organizers are billing the night as a five-year anniversary celebration built around Diana Ross' music, movies and fashion.
The theme, “Mahogany: A Tribute to Diana Ross,” gives the event a particularly cinematic runway assignment. WBAL-TV reports that LaRian Finney is among the gala's producers and describes the event as a celebration of Black excellence spanning fashion, art, food and culture.
Why Mahogany Fits Baltimore's Biggest Style Night
The 1975 film stars Ross as Tracy Chambers, a Chicago fashion student who rises through the fashion world in Rome. The AFI Catalog notes that Ross designed and oversaw the production of 50 outfits for the movie, making her connection to the theme much deeper than a simple movie reference.
The Baltimore gala's organizers say the production will bring together designers, top models, nationally recognized artists and local chefs for a multi-sensory night. In other words, guests should expect the runway to share billing with the plate, the gallery and the dance floor, as the event's official site lays out.
When And Where The 2026 Gala Happens
The event is set for The HALL at Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland in Hanover, a large entertainment venue near Baltimore and BWI. The venue's official listing describes The HALL as a 75,000-square-foot, three-story space with room for concerts, galas and other major productions.
Tickets and additional event details are being provided through the Baltimore MET Gala organizers. With “Mahogany” as its north star, this year's edition has a theme that practically arrives with its own soundtrack—and a very good excuse to dress accordingly.
