After 16 years of lattes, pastries and lingering conversations, Sambalatte’s Boca Park coffeehouse is preparing to close its doors. The west Las Vegas location is scheduled to serve its final cups on Aug. 27, though the local brand says it is still looking for a new home.
Sambalatte will vacate the Boca Park space by the end of August after failing to reach an agreement to renew its lease, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The company also plans to hold a farewell celebration before closing, with details expected later.
A 16-Year West Valley Coffee Run
The Boca Park cafe opened in September 2010, when independent coffee shops were beginning to build a bigger presence across the Las Vegas Valley. Sambalatte was founded by Luiz Oliveira, who envisioned a coffeehouse influenced by Brazilian and European cafe culture.
A 2010 announcement distributed through PRNewswire described the concept as a cafe lounge and espresso bar offering coffee, tea, food and organic and sustainable options. The shop’s menu and atmosphere helped it become more than a quick caffeine stop, with customers using the large Boca Park space for meetings, study sessions and catch-ups.
The company’s official location page still lists the Boca Park cafe and describes Sambalatte as a coffee-focused destination offering breakfast items, pastries, sandwiches, salads, teas and specialty drinks. For regulars, the coming closure marks the end of one of the west valley’s longer-running independent coffee-shop chapters.
Brand Searching For Its Next Location
The Boca Park shutdown does not appear to be a full retirement for Sambalatte. The company is actively searching for another location, leaving open the possibility that its next chapter will happen elsewhere in the Las Vegas area.
Until then, customers have a few more weeks to make the Boca Park shop part of their routine before the farewell celebration and final service. The exact timing and format of that event have not yet been announced.
