A coffee shop known for pairing espresso drinks with over-the-top dessert milkshakes has landed on one of Muskego's busiest commercial strips, giving Waukesha County commuters a new drive-thru option for their morning fix. Better Together Cafe opened its second storefront at W137S6360 W. Janesville Road, following a soft opening in March and an official grand opening on March 21, 2026.
The expansion marks a milestone for founders Becky and Zachary Kinzer, who built the business from a mobile espresso and milkshake trailer into a full-fledged cafe brand, according to the Better Business Bureau. The couple's first permanent location opened in August 2021 at 1301 N. Chicago Avenue in South Milwaukee, a roughly 25-seat spot that established the brand's signature mix of espresso beverages and craft milkshakes, as reported by Urban Milwaukee. FOX6 News Milwaukee's Brian Kramp visited the Muskego shop in a segment that aired Monday, describing it as a new coffee hot spot bringing people together one cup at a time, according to fox6now.com.
The Muskego location adds something the original South Milwaukee shop doesn't have: a drive-thru lane alongside indoor seating, catering to commuters along Janesville Road. Standard hours run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays, per the cafe's announcement of its opening.
A New Life for a Familiar Storefront
The Janesville Road space has a history of its own. Before Better Together Cafe moved in, the building housed Board Together and Da Udder Spot, a combined board game cafe and ice cream shop that served as a community gathering spot for tabletop gaming and sweets.
Now the same address is drawing customers for espresso and specialty shakes instead. The menu leans into dessert-forward creations like the S'mores Espresso Shake, the EspressOreo, and the Unicorn Shake, blending traditional coffee bar staples with sundae-style toppings, according to the cafe's own menu listing.
Community Roots and a Business of the Year Nod
Better Together Cafe's growth hasn't gone unnoticed by local officials. In December 2025, the business was named the 2024 Bucyrus Business of the Year through the City of South Milwaukee's S.M.ALL Business Program, a municipal initiative funded by the Bucyrus Foundation to support local business growth.
The Muskego shop has quickly taken on a similar community role. It has hosted the bi-monthly Waukesha County Caregiver Coffee Meet Up, an event organized by the Wisconsin Family Connections Center that offers support and networking for foster, adoptive, and kinship caregivers across the county, according to the group's event listing on Eventbrite.
Still Rolling: The Mobile Truck That Started It All
Even with two storefronts now open, Better Together Cafe hasn't retired the mobile trailer that started it all. The truck still books private catering, corporate events, and school functions across southeastern Wisconsin, serving espresso, chai teas, and refreshers off-site, according to a report from Wisconsin Lutheran High School.
The Muskego expansion places the brand on what the City of Muskego has long identified as its primary historic commercial corridor. Janesville Road anchors much of the town's retail and dining activity roughly 12 miles southwest of downtown Milwaukee, connecting Waukesha County neighborhoods to regional highways like Interstate 43.
