Dallas is waking up to clear skies today, but the comfortable start will not last long. Temperatures are expected to surge to about 102 degrees, with the heat index reaching as high as 107 during the afternoon.
A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon through 8 p.m. today across Dallas and much of North, Central and East Texas, according to the National Weather Service. South-southwest winds will run around 10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, while rain chances remain near zero.
Triple-Digit Heat Sticks Around
The heat will not let up after today. Tomorrow is forecast to reach 103 degrees, followed by highs near 104 from next Monday through Wednesday, 103 next Thursday, and about 102 next Friday.
Overnight lows will only fall to around 80 or 81 degrees, leaving little relief for homes and buildings that hold onto the day’s heat. Forecasters also expect little to no rain over the next week, while low humidity and dry fuels could increase wildfire activity through early next week.
Plan For Shade And Cooling Breaks
People spending time outside should drink water regularly, wear lightweight clothing and move strenuous activities to the morning or evening. Children, older adults, people with chronic health conditions, outdoor workers and pets face higher risks during prolonged heat.
Dallas’ heat-safety guidance directs residents seeking temporary relief to city facilities, including libraries and recreation centers, and lists cooling centers at 2828 Fish Trap Road and 2922 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Hours can vary, so check the City of Dallas before heading out.
