Bloomberg's long-running finance podcast Odd Lots is taping its first-ever live show in Los Angeles, with hosts Joe Weisenthal and Tracy Alloway set to bring their market-analysis program to The Vermont Hollywood on September 17. The venue, a multi-level space with a 13,000-square-foot footprint and capacity for up to 1,200 guests, sits at 1020 N. Vermont Avenue in East Hollywood. Guests for the taping have not yet been announced.
According to Bloomberg, the show is encouraging listeners to buy tickets soon, noting that Odd Lots live shows typically sell out. The event will include live episode tapings and gives fans a chance to connect with fellow listeners in person, per the same report. It marks the podcast's first live appearance in Los Angeles, expanding a touring circuit that has previously included stops in New York and London.
A Decade of Market Talk Comes to the Stage
Odd Lots launched on November 6, 2015, and marked its 10th anniversary in November 2025, according to Bloomberg Podcasts. The show publishes three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, digging into market patterns, finance, supply chains, and economic policy through long-form interviews, as Metacast notes. Over the past decade, Weisenthal and Alloway have built the franchise well beyond the studio, taking it on the road for live tapings in major financial hubs.
The podcast's first live event took place at WNYC's Greene Space in New York in September 2019, and the show returned to the road as recently as May 2026 with a taping at Wilton's Music Hall in London, according to footage cited by Bloomberg Events. The hosts have also turned their attention to Southern California before: an October 2023 live taping examined the macroeconomic fallout of the Hollywood labor strikes, a sign the pair are no strangers to LA's economic pressure points even before this month's local debut.
Inside The Vermont Hollywood's Renovated Art Deco Shell
The venue hosting the September taping operates inside a historic Art Deco cinema that underwent a $20 million infrastructure renovation, adding modern sound systems and programmable LED display walls, according to Vermont Hollywood's own description of the space. The building sits along an East Hollywood transit corridor near Vermont Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard, close to the B Line Metro station and outside the tourist-heavy stretch of the Walk of Fame, per Alotea Concierge.
The Vermont Hollywood has also drawn local news coverage for reasons unrelated to its entertainment bookings. In June 2026, a Los Angeles judge set an October 2026 trial date for a driver accused of intentionally steering a vehicle into a crowd outside the venue in July 2025, an incident that injured more than 30 people, as reported by Patch. Hoodline previously covered the case, including the driver's path toward a criminal trial and earlier LAPD efforts to identify a suspect connected to the crash.
A Finance Show Lands Amid a $14.9 Billion City Budget
The Los Angeles taping arrives as city officials manage fiscal policy under a $14.9 billion budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year, approved by the LA City Council in May 2026, according to MyNewsLA. The live show also fits into a broader Bloomberg presence in Southern California this fall: the company's annual entertainment and media conference, Bloomberg Screentime, is scheduled for September 30 through October 1 in Los Angeles, per event listings from Bloomberg Live. Together, the two events suggest Bloomberg is deepening its footprint in the region well beyond a single night of podcast recording.
For now, the September 17 taping stands as a modest but notable milestone for a show that started a decade ago as an audio-only deep dive into market esoterica. Whether the Los Angeles crowd hears the hosts turn their attention back to the city's own budget pressures, its entertainment-industry economics, or something else entirely will depend on guests still to be announced.
