Honolulu is heading into a hot, blustery Saturday, August 1, with temperatures near 78 degrees before dawn and a high around 86. Isolated showers could pass through before noon, but skies should turn mostly sunny as strong east-northeast trade winds push through the afternoon.
Strong Trades Drive Saturday’s Forecast
Winds will run 18 to 22 mph, with gusts reaching 31 mph, according to the National Weather Service Honolulu office. Showers will favor windward and mauka areas, while leeward Honolulu should stay largely dry after the morning activity.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect through 6 p.m. Saturday for several of the state’s windier ridges, gaps and downslope areas. Even outside those advisory zones, the gusty trades could make exposed roads, hikes and outdoor setups feel noticeably rougher than a typical summer afternoon.
Boaters Face Rougher Conditions Offshore
The bigger concern for coastal plans is on the water, where a Small Craft Advisory covers all Hawaiian waters through 6 a.m. Sunday, August 2. Seas could rise above 10 feet, while east-facing shores see elevated surf below advisory levels; north- and west-facing beaches should remain tiny, with south shore surf below seasonal averages.
Winds Ease As Shower Chances Build
Sunday should stay warm, with a high near 85 and isolated showers, while trade winds ease slightly to 16 to 21 mph. Winds moderate further Monday and Tuesday, but scattered showers become more common from Tuesday through Friday as highs hold in the mid-to-upper 80s and overnight lows remain around 75 to 77 degrees.
The weather service also warns that the warm, dry and windy pattern is creating near-critical fire-weather concerns in some areas, especially above ridges and on downslope terrain. Residents should secure loose outdoor items, use extra care with any open flame and check conditions before heading into exposed mountain or coastal areas.
