A 9-year-old girl was in the area of Prospect Avenue and Beck Street in the Bronx Friday afternoon when an unidentified person allegedly approached and snatched her necklace, according to police. The child was targeted at about 2:20 p.m. in broad daylight, and the suspect fled before being identified.
The incident occurred within the NYPD's 41st Precinct and is being investigated as grand larceny, according to an NYPD Crime Stoppers alert. Police said the individual traveled northbound on Beck Street before fleeing the location on foot.
Police Offer Up To $3,500 For Information
The NYPD is asking anyone who recognizes the person or knows anything about the theft to come forward. The department's Crime Stoppers program accepts anonymous tips through 1-800-577-TIPS, or 1-888-57-PISTA for Spanish-language callers.
Crime Stoppers says an anonymous tip that leads to an arrest and indictment can qualify for a reward of up to $3,500. Tips can also be submitted online through the NYPD's Crime Stoppers system.
Recent Chain-Snatching Alerts Have Hit The Bronx
The alert comes amid other recent NYPD searches for suspects accused of stealing necklaces from pedestrians. News 12 The Bronx reported Wednesday that police were investigating a separate series of 15 chain-snatching robberies across the Bronx and Manhattan, though there is no indication the cases are connected to Friday's theft.
