Fitting Into California's Broader Climate Math

California's total statewide anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions reached 360.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2023, a 17.6% reduction from 1990 levels, according to official CARB inventory data published in 2025 and cited by Next10. Transportation remains the state's largest single emissions source, followed by industrial processes and electricity generation.
