A car ended up inside Cebars in Euclid before dawn Monday, sending the driver to a hospital and leaving the building in need of emergency stabilization. No one inside the bar was injured, according to initial reports.
Driver Hospitalized After Overnight Impact
The Euclid Fire Department was called to Cebars before 3 a.m. after a vehicle drove into the building, according to News 5 Cleveland. The driver was transported to UH Main Campus with non-life-threatening injuries, while everyone inside the bar escaped harm.
Police are investigating how the vehicle wound up inside the longtime East Side tavern. The initial report did not identify the driver or provide a possible cause for the crash.
Rescue Team Shored Up Damaged Building
The East Tech Rescue Team responded and installed structural shoring to stabilize the building, News 5 reported. Cebars has been part of the local live-music scene for decades; a history from the Cleveland Blues Society says the tavern opened on East 185th Street in 1979.
The response echoes a January incident in which a pickup truck struck Ss. Robert and William Catholic School in Euclid, compromising the structure and prompting a similar rescue-team stabilization effort, according to Cleveland 19. No one inside that school was injured, though two adults from the vehicle were taken to a hospital.
Euclid police had not released additional details about Monday's incident, including whether any citations or charges were pending. Investigators are expected to determine what led to the impact as officials assess the building and the business's next steps.
