Country Day on the Hill kicks off October 9, with the Old Settlers Reunion, followed by the full festival on October 10, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
According to the City of Cedar Hill, Texas - Government, the event is one of the city's longest-running and most-loved traditions, and organizers are billing it once again as Cedar Hill's biggest celebration of the year. The two-day gathering traces back to 1937, when it began as an informal post-harvest meetup where local farming families traded goods and caught up on the town square, according to Tour Texas. Nearly nine decades later, it now draws an estimated 10,000 attendees to the historic district each year, per Friends of Country Day, Inc., making it one of the largest community traditions in the Best Southwest region that also includes DeSoto, Duncanville, and Lancaster.
Friday Night: Supper, Bingo, and a Crowning
The Old Settlers Reunion opens the weekend Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Historic Downtown Cedar Hill, per the city's Facebook post. A light supper of beans, cornbread, tea, and dessert costs $5 a plate, and bingo runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at $5 per card, with additional cards going for $1 each.
The evening also includes the crowning of the Country Day King and Queen, a ceremony that ties directly into the festival's identity as a celebration of long-running local heritage. Float participants who register by September 30 pay $25 per standard entry under an early-bird discount, compared with $75 after the deadline; political parade entries carry separate fees of $100 early or $150 after September 30, the city says.
Pageants, Fish Fry, and a Fire Safety House
Beyond the vendor booths and music stages, Saturday's lineup includes the Cedar Hill Princess Pageant from noon to 1 p.m., the Lions Club Fish Fry, a Friendly Family Pet Show, and a Cedar Hill Fire Department Fire Safety House display, according to the city's event page. The programming spans multiple downtown blocks alongside public safety demonstrations.
To handle the crowds, organizers provide free public parking at Cedar Hill High School with complimentary shuttle service into Historic Downtown Cedar Hill, per Now Magazines. Street closures around the downtown square are expected to restrict local parking during the festival.
