Chicago is starting Thursday with mostly clear skies, lower humidity and temperatures around 66 degrees at Midway. The city is headed for a sunny afternoon near 76 degrees, offering a rare bit of summer weather that does not feel like it is trying to pick a fight.
Sunny Thursday Gives Way To Friday Storms
Northeast winds will run around 5 to 10 mph during the day, with the lakefront likely feeling a little cooler than inland neighborhoods. Skies stay mostly clear Thursday night, with temperatures dropping to about 64 degrees and light southeast winds.
Showers and thunderstorms return Friday after 10 a.m., with a high near 80 and a 50% chance of precipitation. The National Weather Service Chicago office says the greatest storm coverage is expected from late afternoon into the evening, when some storms could bring strong winds, hail and localized downpours, according to its Chicago forecast.
Friday night keeps a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms before storms taper before 1 a.m. Anyone planning outdoor events should have a backup plan, particularly for the late-day and evening hours.
Weekend Turns Cooler And Mostly Dry
Saturday brings mostly sunny skies and a high near 76, though northwest winds around 10 mph could gust to 20 mph. Sunday looks even quieter, with sunshine, a high near 73 and only a minimal rain chance.
Mostly sunny conditions continue Monday and Tuesday as temperatures climb back into the upper 70s and near 80. Another round of shower and thunderstorm chances may arrive Tuesday night into Wednesday, but no watches, warnings or advisories are listed for Chicago in the current forecast.
