Heavy rain and fog are soaking Cleveland early today, with visibility down to about a mile near Burke Lakefront and temperatures around 66 degrees. The weather turns more active—not less—as showers and thunderstorms become widespread later today.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, rain chances rise through the morning before storms become most likely from the afternoon into early evening. The city could reach 80 degrees before temperatures slide into the low 70s, with roughly a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain possible.
Afternoon Storms Could Bring Damaging Winds
Some storms may become severe, particularly from central and eastern Ohio into northwestern Pennsylvania, with damaging wind gusts the primary concern. Isolated hail, locally heavy downpours, and repeated rounds of storms are also possible, making a poor bet today for uncovered outdoor plans.
The strongest activity is expected from midafternoon through early evening as a cold front crosses the region. Storms should continue into tonight, when Cleveland faces a 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms, a low near 62 degrees, and another half-inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain possible.
Cooler, Wetter Weather Follows Into Monday
Tomorrow brings a sharp temperature drop, with showers and thunderstorms likely and a high near 72 degrees. West winds of 13 to 17 mph will add to the unsettled feel, while another round of showers and storms is possible Tomorrow night with temperatures falling to about 59.
Monday stays cool near 71 degrees with scattered rain showers, but conditions should gradually settle afterward. Tuesday looks like the week’s cleanest outdoor-weather window, with sunshine and a high near 75, followed by mostly sunny skies near 79 Wednesday and another chance for showers and storms Thursday.
Lake Erie Swimming Conditions Turn Dangerous
Officials are advising swimmers to stay out of the water, while boaters should expect rough Lake Erie conditions, waves of 3 to 7 feet, and the possibility of waterspouts through Monday.
