Cleveland’s Sculpture Center is turning one September night into a gallery crawl, art sale and party with a purpose. The upcoming fundraiser will mix live artist activations, new exhibitions, food and drinks with an uncommon chance to see pieces from the David E. Davis collection.
Called “The Night Before,” the event is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Sculpture Center, with a VIP preview reception from 5 to 6 p.m. The evening will also feature original work by Cleveland contemporary sculpture artists, curated music and lighting, complimentary food from Fired Up! Catering and a cash bar provided by Bartenza, according to Cleveland.com.
The fundraiser is designed to support the center’s public programs and community access to contemporary sculpture. The Sculpture Center says proceeds will help fund free and low-cost programming, artist stipends, educational experiences and neighborhood-based projects for Cleveland residents.
Three Cleveland Artists Will Turn The Event Into A Live Installation
One-night-only activations are planned by Kasumi, Jimmy Kuehnle and Lauren Yeager. The center describes Kasumi’s work as a blend of physical materials, digital media and live performance, while Kuehnle is known for interactive inflatable sculptures and Yeager repurposes salvaged materials into sculptures that rethink familiar forms, as detailed on the event’s artist page.
Guests will also have access to exhibitions featuring Emily Culver, Max Spitzer and Brent Kee Young. Culver’s “Holotyped” examines how institutions classify bodies, Spitzer’s “Pomodoro Variations” turns sculpture into a multichannel sound environment, and Young’s glass “Matrix Series” explores the overlap between organic structures and mathematical forms, according to The Sculpture Center’s exhibition guide.
Art Sale Will Benefit Both Artists And The Sculpture Center
The “Art for a Cause” sale will offer original work by artists including Hannah Bates, Patricia Brett, Kristen Cliffel, Federico Cuatlacuatl, Kasumi, Jimmy Kuehnle, Ling-lin Ku, Edra Soto and Stephen Yusko. The center says each purchase will directly benefit the participating artist and the nonprofit, making the sale part gallery experience and part arts-support mechanism, as outlined by the official sale details.
General admission tickets cost $35 through September 13, then rise to $45, while VIP tickets are $110 and include complimentary drinks during the preview hour. Ten-ticket group packages are also available, and the center’s event FAQ says tickets can be purchased online or at the door, with complimentary bites included for all guests.
