An Orange County sheriff’s office appeal is asking the public to help identify a man accused of exposing himself to a cashier inside a Hillsborough Food Lion before leaving the store. Investigators released photos of the man and a vehicle as they work to determine who he is.
In a Tuesday post, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the man entered the store, exposed himself to the cashier and then left. The agency is asking anyone who recognizes the man or the vehicle shown in the photos to contact Lt. Hendricks at 919-245-2951 or [email protected].
The incident occurred at the Food Lion in Churton Grove Shopping Center, which Food Lion’s store locator lists at 101 N. Scotswood Blvd. in Hillsborough. The sheriff’s post did not provide a suspect name or say that an arrest had been made.
Possible charge depends on the investigation
North Carolina’s indecent-exposure statute says a person may be charged for willfully exposing private parts in a public place and in the presence of another person. The North Carolina General Assembly lists the offense as a misdemeanor in ordinary circumstances, with more serious felony treatment in certain cases involving a person younger than 16 and an alleged sexual purpose.
