Dallas woke to clear skies this morning with temperatures in the mid-80s, but the calm start will give way to dangerous heat. The high is expected to reach 106 degrees, with the heat index climbing to around 107. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Wednesday for Dallas and much of North Texas.
Peak Heat Arrives Wednesday Afternoon
Temperatures will rise quickly, reaching the 90s by late morning, around 99 degrees at noon, and the triple digits during the afternoon. South-southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph will offer little relief, and rain is not expected in Dallas.
The National Weather Service warns that extreme heat can significantly increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially during the hottest part of the day. Residents should drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, limit strenuous outdoor activity, and check on neighbors who may be vulnerable to the heat.
Little Rain Relief In Sight
Tomorrow will bring another sunny day with a high near 105 and a heat index as high as 110. A weak boundary could spark isolated thunderstorms in parts of Northeast Texas Thursday afternoon and evening, but Dallas has only a 2% chance of rain, and most of the area is expected to stay dry.
Triple-Digit Heat Lasts Into Next Week
Friday and Saturday are forecast to reach 105 degrees, followed by highs near 106 next Sunday and Monday and 105 next Tuesday. Overnight lows will mostly remain in the low 80s, limiting the amount of relief after sunset.
Low afternoon humidity and the prolonged heat could also contribute to additional grass fires over the next several days, although modest winds are expected to keep the overall fire-weather threat below elevated levels. Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, and call 911 immediately if someone shows signs of heat stroke.
