Nashville started Thursday with light rain and fog or mist around Nashville International Airport, where temperatures were about 72°F at 5:40 a.m. Showers and thunderstorms are likely early, with another chance later in the day before temperatures climb near 92°F. The heat index could make it feel as hot as 106°F during the afternoon.
Early Storms Could Bring Heavy Rain
Showers and thunderstorms are most likely before 9 a.m., with a brief lull possible through late morning before storm chances return around midday and continue into the afternoon. Southwest winds should stay light near 5 mph, but downpours could still be intense, with between a half-inch and three-quarters of an inch of rain possible in some spots.
The National Weather Service in Nashville said damaging winds and heavy rain are the main concerns, with a slight severe-storm risk along and north of I-40 early Thursday. A lower, marginal risk is posted for areas south of I-40 and along the Cumberland Plateau later Thursday, while localized flooding could develop under the heaviest cells.
Fog Returns After Dark
Storm chances drop to about 20% Thursday night, mainly before 10 p.m., followed by patchy fog under mostly cloudy skies. The low should settle near 72°F, with light northwest winds and no watches, warnings or advisories listed in the forecast.
Weekend Skies Turn Sunny
Friday begins with patchy fog before 9 a.m., then turns mostly sunny with a high near 91°F and a heat index around 101°F. Friday night will be mostly clear with a low near 68°F, although more fog may form after 2 a.m.
Saturday should be sunny and hot near 93°F, followed by a sunny Sunday with a high around 90°F. Rain chances remain very low through the weekend, giving outdoor plans a much better shot after Thursday's storm interruptions.
Heat Builds Again Next Week
Mostly sunny weather continues Monday with a high near 89°F, but temperatures rise again Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday could reach 92°F with a slight chance of morning showers, while Wednesday may hit 94°F with a small chance of showers and thunderstorms.
For Thursday, drivers should be ready for sudden downpours and reduced visibility, and anyone outdoors should take thunder seriously and move inside when storms approach. Hydration will matter as the heat index climbs, even if rain briefly cools parts of the city.
