A man walked up to someone on the 2000 block of 14th Street NW around 6 a.m. on May 10 and stabbed them before running off, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The victim was taken to a local hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening. Nearly three months passed before investigators made the case public, releasing surveillance images of the suspect this past Tuesday in hopes that someone can identify him.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s release, filed under case number CCN 26062975, shows a man police say brandished a knife during the encounter, though officers have not disclosed what led up to the confrontation or whether the suspect and victim knew each other, as reported by Shore News Network. No arrest or suspect identification has been announced. The three-month gap between the attack and the public appeal for tips remains unexplained, and it is unclear whether footage from nearby businesses played a role in developing the images now being circulated.
MPD is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible, part of the department’s standard reward program for violent crimes committed in the District. Anyone who recognizes the man in the photos is asked to call (202) 727-9099 or send a tip by text to 50411; police have specifically warned residents not to confront the suspect themselves if they spot him.
A Commercial Strip With a Violent Recent History
The stretch of 14th Street NW where the May stabbing happened sits inside MPD’s Third District, which covers the busy U Street and Cardozo-Shaw corridor known for its nightlife and heavy foot traffic well past midnight. That same block has seen repeated violence involving knives and guns over the past year. In September 2025, a large brawl on the block turned deadly when 34-year-old Jermaine Foster Jr. was fatally stabbed and three others were hurt; D.C. Superior Court records reviewed by DC Witness show MPD detectives later arrested 49-year-old Shawn Lamar Conway in Suitland, Maryland, charging him with second-degree murder while armed.
The same block was the scene of a non-fatal shooting in December 2025 following a physical altercation, which led to the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect months later on an assault with a dangerous weapon charge, according to the same outlet. Then in June, DC police sought four suspects tied to a double stabbing outside a nightclub on the block, as reported by The DMV Live. Those victims were treated for non-fatal injuries.
Felony Exposure Under DC's Assault Law
If caught, the suspect in the May stabbing would face a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon under District of Columbia Code § 22-402, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $25,000, per FindLaw. Actual physical injury to the victim is not required under DC law to support that charge, meaning the surviving victim’s non-life-threatening wounds do not lessen the potential penalty if a suspect is identified and convicted.
Part of a Wider Pattern Along 14th Street
The May stabbing adds to a string of violent incidents that have unfolded along the broader 14th Street NW corridor this year. Hoodline previously reported that a man was fatally stabbed near Columbia Heights Metro in the 2900 block of 14th Street NW on July 11, nine blocks north of the site of the May attack, with police canvassing nearby buildings for video footage in that case as well. Investigators have not said whether any of these separate incidents are connected. For now, MPD says the case remains open, and detectives are relying on the public to help put a name to the face in the surveillance images.
