Detroit is starting today, near 62 degrees under clear to partly cloudy skies, but the calm will not last all day. Temperatures are expected to rise to about 83 degrees before humidity and storm chances build late in the afternoon.
Storms Arrive Late Wednesday
Partly sunny skies should hold through much of today, with southwest winds increasing to 13 mph and gusts reaching 21 mph. Showers and thunderstorms could begin after 5 p.m., with the best chance for storms running through the evening and before 10 p.m.
A few of the stronger storms could produce damaging wind gusts, brief heavy downpours and large hail, while a weak tornado cannot be ruled out. The National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac says the primary concern is isolated stronger storms, so outdoor plans should include a quick route indoors once thunder starts.
Sunshine Returns Before Next Week Heats Up
Tomorrow should be mostly sunny with a high near 83 degrees, although an isolated shower is possible after 5 p.m. on Friday; it looks sunnier and cooler near 79 degrees, while Saturday, August 29, brings mostly sunny skies and a high around 82.
The warmer turn arrives next Sunday, when Detroit could reach 87 degrees, followed by highs near 90 next Monday, and 88 next Tuesday. Rain and thunderstorm chances also return in small doses from next Sunday night into next Tuesday, making the forecast a sharp change from the quieter stretch outlined in Hoodline.
