Detroit Scores Sunny Timeout Before Next Week’s Sizzling Heat Roars Back

Detroit is getting a brief late-August reset before summer turns the thermostat back up. Today starts clear and near 68 degrees, with mostly sunny skies pushing afternoon temperatures to about 82.

Sunny, Seasonable Weather Through Saturday

Winds will stay generally light from the west and northwest, around 5 to 8 mph. The National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac office says there is only a small chance of a brief shower this afternoon or evening, with the better odds north toward the Thumb; no watches or warnings are in effect.

Tomorrow and Saturday look like the best stretch for outdoor plans, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 81 and 82 degrees. Overnight lows will fall into the low 60s tomorrow night, while Saturday night turns milder and partly to mostly cloudy.

Heat Builds Early Next Week

The comfortable pattern fades next Sunday as temperatures rise to around 85 degrees, followed by highs near 89 next Monday and 90 next Tuesday. Shower and thunderstorm chances increase next Sunday night through next Wednesday, including a chance of storms next Monday and a renewed chance next Tuesday night.

For now, today through Saturday offer dry, manageable weather across Detroit, with lower humidity arriving behind the recent front. The bigger shift comes early next week, when near-90-degree heat and a more unsettled sky move into the forecast.
