The Phoenix Suns guard will release a new colorway of his signature Nike Book 2 shoe on September 4, an all-Honolulu Blue design from toe to heel that carries the simple name Detroit Lions.
The low-top sneakers feature a black Nike swoosh, blue laces, and a Lions logo stamped on the outside of the heel, according to the Detroit Free Press. The timing is no accident. The Honolulu Blue shade splashed across Booker's new shoe isn't just a marketing color choice — it's been the Lions' signature hue since July 1934, when founding owner George A. Richards picked the ocean-inspired tone after a trip to Hawaii, shortly after moving the franchise to Detroit from Portsmouth, Ohio, according to WDET 101.9 FM. Richards paired it with silver trim to give the new Detroit franchise a distinct identity, one that's stuck for more than nine decades.
This isn't the first time Booker has flirted with Lions-themed footwear.
