Columbus is starting Sunday with fog and mist, temperatures around 73 degrees and a stormy day ahead. Showers and thunderstorms are likely, with the biggest downpour and wind concerns arriving later in the afternoon. A cooler, calmer stretch is waiting just a few days away.
Storms Could Hit Twice Sunday
Early showers and thunderstorms may linger before 7 a.m., followed by another round of storms through the afternoon. High temperatures should reach about 86 degrees, with southwest winds increasing to 3 to 12 mph and gusts up to 23 mph. The National Weather Service says locally heavy rain and some strong to severe storms will be possible.
Flood Watch Runs Through Sunday Morning
A Flood Watch remains in effect through 8 a.m. Sunday for Franklin County and much of central Ohio, where excessive rain could cause flooding in creeks, streams, low-lying areas and other flood-prone spots. Forecast rainfall totals range from a quarter-inch to a half-inch, though heavier amounts are possible in thunderstorms. Drivers should avoid water-covered roads, highway dips and underpasses if storms unload quickly.
Storm Chances Fade Before A Cooler Week
Sunday night brings another chance of storms before skies turn mostly cloudy, with a low near 71 degrees. Monday stays unsettled with a high near 82 and scattered shower and thunderstorm chances, while Tuesday looks sunny and cooler near 81.
Another stormy stretch is possible Wednesday, when the high should reach around 80 degrees. Temperatures then ease into the 70s, with Thursday near 76, Friday near 77 and Saturday near 79 under mostly sunny or partly sunny skies.
