Los Angeles is heading into a hot weekend, with downtown temperatures expected to climb from the upper 60s before dawn to about 88 degrees Saturday. Sunday could be slightly warmer, with a high near 89, while a Heat Advisory remains in effect across affected parts of southwest California.
Heat Advisory Runs Through Sunday Evening
The advisory begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and continues through 8 p.m. Sunday, as hotter inland communities could reach 90 to 100 degrees. The National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying out of the afternoon sun and checking on relatives and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to heat illness.
Downtown Los Angeles should see mostly sunny skies Saturday, with southwest winds increasing to around 10 mph during the afternoon. Rain is not expected, and Saturday night should turn partly cloudy with a low near 68 degrees.
Cooling Trend Arrives Next Week
The heat eases modestly Monday, when the high is forecast near 87 degrees, followed by highs around 85 Tuesday and 84 Wednesday. By Thursday and Friday, temperatures could settle into the low 80s, although coastal neighborhoods and some valleys may see morning low clouds or fog.
People without reliable air conditioning can use public air-conditioned spaces or call 211 for help locating cooling resources. Los Angeles County emergency officials also advise limiting strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day and moving anyone showing signs of heat stroke to a cool location while calling 911.
