A 6-year-old boy was found alone at a New Cassel community center Saturday night after the adult who was supposed to watch him allegedly left him unattended. The child was evaluated by a Nassau County police medic and released to a family member, while the family friend now faces a child-endangerment charge.
Officers responded around 8:15 p.m. Saturday to the Town of North Hempstead Community Center after receiving a report of a found child, according to Daily Voice. Police said the boy had been left in the care of Rood-Diny Illus, 31, of New Cassel, who allegedly left the residence and left the child without supervision.

New York Penal Law §260.10 covers conduct that knowingly places a child under 17 in circumstances likely to harm the child’s physical, mental or moral welfare, according to the New York Senate. The offense is classified as a Class A misdemeanor. The charge is an allegation, and it does not establish guilt.
Illus was arrested without incident and issued an appearance ticket, Daily Voice reported. He is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Hempstead next Thursday, while the child’s condition was not reported as seriously injured.
