Back-to-school shopping in Florida usually means notebooks, sneakers and a fresh backpack. Instead, Florida Highway Patrol troopers say a traffic stop in Brevard County last Monday ended with a motorist arrested after authorities found 36 kilograms of cocaine and 43 pounds of methamphetamine.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles announced the arrest in an agency post, saying FHP's Criminal Interdiction Unit made the stop and took the driver into custody. The agency said the motorist faces multiple drug-trafficking and possession charges, but did not publicly identify the person or provide the highway, vehicle details or a case number.

More Than 120 Pounds Of Alleged Narcotics
Thirty-six kilograms of cocaine works out to about 79 pounds, putting the combined haul at roughly 122 pounds. That quantity is far beyond what would ordinarily be described as personal-use possession and aligns with the trafficking allegations announced by the agency, though officials did not say where investigators believe the drugs came from or where they were headed.
FHP’s Highway Interdiction Unit
The arrest was credited to the Criminal Interdiction Unit, a specialized FHP operation that uses troopers and K-9 teams to look for narcotics and other criminal activity on Florida highways. In a 2025 release, the state agency said its K-9 teams patrol interstate routes and other roads to interdict drug couriers.
Large highway drug hauls have surfaced in earlier FHP cases as well. In 2023, the agency said a traffic stop on I-95 in Nassau County led troopers to liquid and crystal methamphetamine, along with materials used to produce the drug, and resulted in planned trafficking, possession and production charges.
