A stolen Nissan Altima chase in Marion County ended with a dramatic crawl under a vehicle after deputies say the suspect drove over stop sticks, lost his tires and abandoned the car. Chad Cordrey was arrested Saturday after allegedly fleeing from deputies and hiding in a nearby yard.
Deputies spotted the Altima near NE Jacksonville Road and NE 35th Street on Saturday, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office and reporting by KFOX14. When deputies tried to pull him over, authorities said Cordrey accelerated away in the vehicle.
The sheriff's office said a helicopter followed the Altima for several minutes before deputies deployed stop sticks on NE Highway 314. Cordrey allegedly drove over the tire-deflation devices and continued until the vehicle's tires gave out.
After leaving the disabled Nissan, Cordrey reportedly ran into a nearby yard and hid beneath another vehicle. KFOX14 reported that aerial footage showed deputies tracking the Altima, while body-camera video captured officers pulling Cordrey from underneath the vehicle and handcuffing him.
Suspect Faces Three Charges After Deputies Say He Fled
Cordrey was taken to the Marion County Jail and charged with grand theft, fleeing and eluding, and resisting arrest. The sheriff's office also identified him as a registered sex offender.
