Downtown Los Angeles woke Tuesday, August 4, at about 65°F with humid air and a light breeze, but the gray start will not last. Patchy fog is expected through the morning before sunshine takes over and temperatures climb to around 87°F. It is another warm, dry summer day for the city, with much hotter conditions waiting inland.
Foggy Start, Sunny Finish
Patchy fog could linger until about 11 a.m., especially near lower-lying and coastal areas. After that, skies should turn mostly sunny, with south-southwest winds generally between 0 and 10 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Afternoon winds may reach about 10 mph from the west-southwest as temperatures peak during the early-to-mid afternoon. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low near 66°F, while Wednesday looks nearly identical: sunny and around 86°F.
Warm, Mostly Dry Stretch Through The Weekend
Thursday should also top out near 86°F before highs rise to about 88°F from Friday through Sunday. Overnight lows will remain in the mid-to-upper 60s, offering some relief after sunset but not much of a deep cool-down.
No rain is expected through the weekend, and Monday should stay sunny with a high near 86°F. The broader Los Angeles region will see a sharper split, with coastal and downtown neighborhoods staying seasonably warm while interior valleys, mountain areas and the far interior face triple-digit heat.
The National Weather Service says heat warnings remain in effect through Saturday evening for parts of the Antelope Valley, Cuyama Valley and northern Ventura County mountains. Anyone heading inland should plan strenuous outdoor activity for earlier in the day, drink plenty of water and check on people who may be more vulnerable to heat.
