A mystery car tore downhill along Boulder County’s US 36 Bikeway at up to 50 mph over the weekend. The sheriff’s office is now looking for the driver after releasing video of the bizarre and dangerous detour.
According to CBS Colorado, the vehicle was recorded around 1:38 p.m. traveling from Davidson Mesa toward Boulder. Investigators believe it may have been a black Infiniti coupe with pink or red fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror, and no injuries were reported; the sheriff’s video appears below.
Sheriff’s Office Wants The Driver Identified
The car’s entry point onto the bikeway remains unclear, though a scenic overlook turnoff near the top of the mesa could provide a possible route. CBS Colorado reported that anyone who can identify the vehicle or driver is asked to call the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office at 303-441-4444.
US 36 Is Already A Safety Flashpoint
The incident lands on a corridor already under scrutiny for cyclist and pedestrian safety. Boulder County’s North Foothills bikeway project page says the US 36 stretch between Broadway and Colorado 66 recorded 13 injury crashes involving cyclists or pedestrians and six fatalities from 2015 through 2024, while more than 52,000 cyclists use the route each year. The county says design work is continuing in 2026, but construction funding has not yet been secured.
