A 10-year-old described by police as a runaway was located Sunday after a regional search brought in Gastonia Police Department bloodhound K9 Bo. The child was found roughly one mile from home, according to the police update.
Belmont Police Department said in a Monday update that regional agencies assisted with the search, while Gastonia K9 Bo helped locate the juvenile. The notice did not identify the child or disclose how long the child had been missing.
K9 Bo Has A Track Record Of Finding Missing People
Bo is a bloodhound assigned to Gastonia police and handled by Sgt. David Rowland. A City of Gastonia release said Bo previously helped locate an elderly missing man and a missing child with special needs.
The team’s recent work has also drawn statewide attention. The Carolina Journal reported that Rowland and Bo helped find a missing teenager during a snowstorm, while Bo also assisted in locating a 7-year-old who had been abducted at knifepoint in 2024.

Belmont police did not provide the child’s name, the circumstances surrounding the runaway report, or the exact location where the juvenile was found. The public notice characterized the incident as a runaway case and did not describe an abduction or announce any further investigation.
