Charlee Rose Coffee, the mother-daughter-owned cafe that has operated out of a flower shop on North Gilbert Road, is packing up and moving to Mesa after learning its landlord was courting another coffee concept for the space. Owners Brandy and Brianna Grice have already locked in a new address, 1134 S. Stapley Dr., Suite 105, but they must vacate their current Gilbert property by September 15, leaving a tight window to get the new cafe up and running.

The Grice family found out about the competing interest in their space through a Facebook post, according to WhatNow. That discovery set off a scramble, and customers stepped in to help the family search for a new commercial location, ultimately landing on the Stapley Drive storefront near the US-60 freeway corridor, a strip center that also houses GM Hatz custom embroidery and Neveria Chay'os Mexican snacks. The Grices shared the new Mesa address with their following on August 12, following the community-driven property search.

The suite carries some built-in advantages. It was previously fitted out as a cafe by Noble Ground Coffee, a social-enterprise chain that opened its first Mesa location in that same space in February 2024, according to the Daily Independent. Whether that pre-existing coffee shop buildout will shorten Charlee Rose's ramp-up time has not been detailed, but the family has said more updates are coming, per their Instagram, and that they are excited to welcome the community to the Mesa cafe once it's ready.

From Mobile Trailer to Flower Shop Cafe

Charlee Rose Coffee began as a mobile coffee trailer before growing into its current brick-and-mortar footprint, the report notes. Before landing in Gilbert, the trailer served East Valley neighborhoods, including stops in Queen Creek residential areas during 2025, illustrating the grassroots following the family built before opening a permanent shop. The business takes its name from Brianna Grice's daughter, Charlee Rose, and was built around organic coffee, non-toxic ingredients and house-made specialty syrups, according to WhatNow.

Its Gilbert cafe operates inside Lena's Flowers & Gifts, a family-owned florist and event rental company at 522 N. Gilbert Rd., a shared-space arrangement that let the coffee brand keep overhead low while it built a customer base. The menu spans coffee, matcha, teas, lemonades and specialty espresso drinks, and the shop sources its single-origin organic Mexican Chiapas medium-roast beans from Bergies Coffee Roast House, a Gilbert-based roaster, according to azcoffeeshops.com.

A Second Gilbert Cafe Still On the Way

Importantly, the Mesa move does not affect Charlee Rose's previously announced plans for a second Gilbert location. The company has signed a lease for a new storefront at 18318 E. Chandler Heights Rd., Suite 102, which was secured for a six-month buildout targeting a mid-January 2027 opening with light breakfast items and online ordering, per WhatNow. That means the Grice family is now managing two separate footprints at once — relocating its original cafe across town into Mesa while continuing to build out its planned second Gilbert shop for an early 2027 debut.

Several details remain unannounced. The Grices have not said when the Mesa location will open, and it's unclear whether there will be a gap in service between the September closing of the Gilbert cafe and the Mesa opening. How the new Mesa storefront will handle seating and menu offerings compared with its shared setup inside the flower shop also hasn't been detailed.

A Booming Beverage Scene on Both Sides of the Move

The relocation comes as downtown Gilbert's beverage and bakery sector has kept expanding, with Sablé Boulangerie opening at 228 N. Gilbert Rd. in May and craft coffee-bar concept The Buzzed Goat entering nearby SanTan Village in September, according to Hoodline. Regional commercial developments such as The Gilmore at Val Vista Drive and Germann Road are also bringing new food and beverage leases to Gilbert starting later this year, part of a broader wave of East Valley commercial growth tied to rising residential density. Against that backdrop, Charlee Rose's shift to Mesa marks one small business betting on a different corner of the East Valley even as its hometown keeps adding boutique cafes.
