A 69-year-old Long Beach woman was arrested after another woman died at the scene of a reported physical assault Saturday evening, police said. The arrest came near the Grand Avenue scene, but investigators have not publicly described what led to the confrontation or how the two women were connected.
Officers responded shortly after 7:25 p.m. to the 2600 block of Grand Avenue, where they found a female adult unresponsive, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Long Beach Fire Department personnel rendered medical aid, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police identified the suspect as Estela Jaramillo Rodriguez, a Long Beach resident who was arrested near the scene and booked on suspicion of murder. The Press-Telegram reported that authorities had not released additional details about the assault, and the victim’s name was being withheld while relatives were notified.
Case Headed To Los Angeles County Prosecutors
Rodriguez was being held on $2 million bail, the police department said. Detectives are expected to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration, meaning the arrest is not a conviction and formal charges remain up to prosecutors.
