A 67-year-old motorcyclist was killed early Saturday after a Ford struck him at a West Side intersection in San Antonio, police said. The deadly collision happened as the rider attempted to turn onto Southwest 24th Street.
Hector Hernandez was involved in the crash just before 1:30 a.m. at West Commerce Street and Southwest 24th Street, according to KSAT. A preliminary report said Hernandez was traveling southbound onto Southwest 24th from westbound West Commerce when he tried to make the turn.
Police Say Ford Had A Protected Green Light
The fatality comes about five weeks after another deadly motorcycle crash on San Antonio’s West Side near Loop 410 and Callaghan Road. In that case, a 58-year-old rider was thrown from the motorcycle after losing control, as previously reported by Hoodline.
Witnesses told officers Hernandez had a flashing yellow signal while turning, while the Ford was traveling eastbound on West Commerce with a protected green signal, KSAT reported. Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Ford driver remained there and was evaluated for intoxication; police said the driver showed no signs of intoxication.
