Greenville's new SportsPark Center threw open its doors during a grand opening hosted by city officials on August 29, giving residents their first look at a 120,000-square-foot facility that includes six basketball courts, a multipurpose indoor turf field, an aquatics center with a lap pool, and an indoor walking and running track. The city is letting anyone use the facility free of charge through September 13, before monthly and annual memberships take effect on September 14.
The center, located at 6705 Monty Stratton Parkway within the larger Greenville SportsPark complex, is tied to a $65 million recreation bond package that voters approved in November 2023, according to the Herald-Banner. General contractor Adolfson & Peterson Construction and BRS Architecture broke ground on the SportsPark project in September 2024, per Adolfson & Peterson Construction. Before the bond even reached voters, the Greenville City Council had already approved a $4,977,917 professional services agreement with Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture in February 2023 to design the multi-generational center, according to the City of Greenville.
What's Inside the New 120,000-Square-Foot Building
Beyond the courts, turf field and pool, the Herald-Banner reports the center includes group exercise studios, fitness and workout areas, an outdoor fitness terrace, locker rooms with a dry sauna and cabanas, and a childcare room with lounges and offices for programming and member services. The six basketball courts can also convert for volleyball and pickleball. The center additionally offers community events and rental spaces for birthday parties, meetings and other gatherings, the outlet notes.
The second floor houses nearly $1 million worth of cardio and strength-training equipment surrounding the indoor walking track, according to The Lens - Hunt County. The city describes the complex as a regional hub for youth sports, adult fitness and senior programming.
Membership Rates Once the Free Window Closes
Once free access ends on September 13, the center will operate on a tiered membership structure, per the Herald-Banner. Youth and senior annual memberships each run $180 for Greenville residents and $240 for nonresidents, while adult annual memberships cost $360 for residents and $420 for nonresidents. Adult annual couple memberships are priced at $480 for residents and $540 for nonresidents, and senior annual couple memberships run $240 for residents and $300 for nonresidents.
Family annual memberships, which cover two adults and all legal dependents, cost $720 for residents and $780 for nonresidents. Monthly options include youth memberships at $18 for residents and $24 for nonresidents, adult memberships at $36 for residents and $42 for nonresidents, and family memberships at $72 for residents and $78 for nonresidents. Senior monthly couple memberships run $24 for residents and $30 for nonresidents, and adult monthly couple memberships cost $48 for residents and $54 for nonresidents. Regular hours run 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, the Herald-Banner reports.
A Healthcare Partner Moves In, and a Second Center Gets an Upgrade
The SportsPark Center isn't Greenville's only recreation project tied to the 2023 bond. The package also includes a 3,655-square-foot addition to the existing 18,177-square-foot Reecy Davis Recreation Center. The Reecy Davis Recreation Center is an existing facility.
A planned co-location arrangement would bring Hunt Regional Healthcare into tenant space inside the SportsPark Center.
The SportsPark complex is part of the broader recreation project, per the City of Greenville. As Greenville residents take advantage of the free preview window before paid memberships begin, questions remain about how usage will trend between resident and nonresident members and how the facility will serve visitors.
