A reported attempt to steal a co-worker’s car at a Spartanburg apartment complex allegedly escalated when a man pulled a pistol and raised it at employees. The confrontation ended with the suspect injured, the gun missing, and police finding ammunition inside his apartment.
Officers were called to Arbor Glen Apartments on Fernwood Glendale Road around 7:44 p.m. Friday for a weapons complaint. According to FOX Carolina, a witness said employees were locking up their shop when a resident, described by that witness as drunk, allegedly tried to take a co-worker’s car.
Police identified the man as Zachary Fowler. Employees allegedly tried to remove him from the vehicle before Fowler pulled out a black pistol and raised it toward them, according to the arrest report.
Another employee told officers he took the gun from Fowler and threw it. A separate witness said Fowler was knocked unconscious during the confrontation, while police later found blood in the area and collected it as evidence.
Police Found Ammunition Inside Apartment
The weapon itself was not recovered, according to the report. Officers went to Fowler’s apartment, where EMS was called for his injuries, and saw a round of ammunition on the kitchen table.
After obtaining a search warrant, officers found 24 additional rounds of ammunition, the arrest report says. Police also determined Fowler was prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives reported that an average of 3,370 firearms were reported lost or stolen in interstate shipments annually from 2017 to 2023, representing 0.02% of those shipments.
