Gunfire broke out in the parking lot of a busy Pikesville steakhouse Friday night, leaving a car's windshield punctured with bullet holes but, remarkably, no one hurt. Baltimore County Police officers responded around 7:50 p.m. to a call for shots fired outside Ruth's Chris Steak House in the 1700 block of Reisterstown Road, where officers found shell casings scattered in the lot along with a vehicle bearing fresh windshield damage.
According to WMAR-2 News, no injuries were reported, and the shooting remains under investigation. Photos from the scene reviewed by WBAL showed the damaged vehicle to be a white Acura sedan with at least two bullet holes in its windshield, and an eyewitness told the station that no one was inside the car when the shots were fired. Police have not said whether the Acura was specifically targeted or simply caught in the crossfire.
The restaurant sits in the Commerce Centre shopping plaza at 1777 Reisterstown Road, a Ruth's Chris location run by Big Steaks Management LLC, an independently owned franchise group that operates nine Ruth's Chris restaurants across Maryland, New Jersey, and North Carolina. Whether surveillance cameras from the plaza or nearby storefronts captured the gunfire or a fleeing vehicle has not been disclosed, and Baltimore County Police have not identified a motive or any suspects tied to the shell casings recovered in the lot.
Police Seek Tips as Investigation Continues
Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward. Police have asked the public to call 410-887-1279 with any tips related to the shooting.
The area falls under Baltimore County Police Precinct 4, based at 215 Milford Mill Road in Pikesville and commanded by Captain Shawn Hanley. Should investigators identify a shooter, discharging a firearm in a public place in a manner that creates a substantial risk of death or serious injury can be charged in Maryland as reckless endangerment under Criminal Law Code Section 3-204, a misdemeanor carrying up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
A Corridor With a Recent String of Public Safety Scares
Reisterstown Road, the commercial spine that cuts through Pikesville, has seen a run of high-profile incidents this year. Just weeks earlier, Hoodline reported that an MTA bus slammed into a building in the 1500 block of Reisterstown Road, injuring more than 30 people and triggering a mass-casualty response.
In June, Precinct 4 officers responded to a major shooting along a trail off Milford Mill Road, where an officer, a suspect, and a bystander were all injured during an exchange of gunfire, according to Baltimore County Government. That case led to charges against a suspect who later declined a bail review and remained locked up, as Hoodline reported at the time. And in March, a fatal shooting on Scotts Level Road near Winand Elementary School forced traffic detours during morning drop-off, a story Hoodline also covered as it unfolded.
Despite that recent run of incidents, county planning profiles have historically shown Pikesville maintaining lower overall crime rates than broader Baltimore County trends, underscoring how unusual this stretch of violent incidents has been for the area. The Maryland Department of State Police also maintains its state headquarters at 1201 Reisterstown Road, roughly 2.5 miles south of the Ruth's Chris location, putting a major state law enforcement hub on the same thoroughfare where Friday's shooting occurred.
