Seattle police and fire crews converged on Riverview Saturday evening after an emergency call was dispatched as a shooting, but the response quickly shifted when no victim was found. Investigators were told the reported victim may have left in a green pickup truck, while shell-casing marker placards later appeared in the Riverview Playfield parking lot.
The incident was initially handled as a shooting, according to West Seattle Blog, which reported that Seattle Fire Department canceled its scenes-of-violence response after crews found no victim. The blog’s on-scene crew then reported what appeared to be gunfire based on the markers, adding a physical clue to an otherwise murky call.
What The Initial Report Establishes
Riverview Playfield is a multi-use Seattle Parks property with baseball and softball fields, soccer and football fields, tennis and basketball courts, trails, and restrooms, according to Seattle Parks and Recreation. That mix of open fields and nearby parking areas helps explain why a report of gunfire there would draw a substantial police-and-fire response, even after the reported victim was gone.
The initial report did not identify a victim, suspect, motive, or arrest. It also did not establish whether the person reportedly transported away in the green pickup was injured or whether the vehicle was directly involved in the gunfire, West Seattle Blog reported.
Saturday’s response came less than two months after a separate June shooting in the same broader area. In that case, an 18-year-old was found at home with gunshot wounds after police received a report of shots near Riverview Playfield, and Hoodline reported the June shooting that officers later located a scene near 12th Avenue Southwest and Southwest Holden Street.
Riverview Has Seen Similar Calls
The park has also been the site of earlier gunfire investigations. In a May 2022 incident, Seattle Police Department said witnesses reported shots and vehicles leaving the playfield; officers found evidence in the parking lot but no property damage or victims.
For now, Saturday’s case remains a reported shooting with apparent physical evidence but no publicly identified victim or suspect. Any later police update could determine whether the call involved an injury, a fleeing vehicle, or gunfire without a reported casualty.
