Placerville will host a free community event this Saturday where residents can learn about concealed-carry permits, meet local law enforcement, and enjoy a full slate of family activities. The gathering runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds.
According to an El Dorado County Sheriff's Office announcement, the CCW community event is sponsored by USCCA and will feature Sheriff Leikauf as a special guest speaker. Attendees can also meet local law enforcement personnel, explore specialized equipment, and browse numerous local vendors.
The family-friendly programming includes free snow cones and cotton candy, gifts for kids, food trucks, raffles, prizes, and multiple firearm raffles. Organizers said questions about the event or the county’s CCW process can be directed to [email protected] or (530) 621-5996.
What California CCW Applicants Should Know
California generally requires a valid Carry Concealed Weapon license to carry a concealed firearm in public. The California Attorney General's Office says applicants must meet eligibility requirements and complete other specified steps, including required training, while county sheriffs and police chiefs serve as licensing authorities.
The event also comes as California’s permit rules are changing. California Legislative Information shows that AB 1948, approved June 30, extends the standard maximum validity of new and renewal CCW licenses from two years to three.
That change is scheduled to take effect next year, and Hoodline previously reported that the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said licenses issued before January 1, 2027, will remain on the current two-year schedule, while licenses issued on or after that date will use the new three-year term.
For Saturday’s event, the sheriff’s office is framing the gathering around responsible firearm ownership, public safety, and community partnership. With free treats for children and a lineup aimed at both permit holders and curious residents, it is designed to be more neighborhood open house than paperwork marathon.
