A Huntington Beach man took an accidental detour into Huntington Harbour Tuesday morning, driving his car into the water and then getting himself out. He escaped without significant injury, though the splashdown prompted a fire-and-dive response near a harbor condominium complex.
The vehicle entered the water shortly before 9 a.m. near Warner Avenue and Edgewater Lane, according to Los Angeles Times. The driver got out on his own before responders arrived and was taken to a hospital as a precaution; police said he may have hit the accelerator instead of the brake.
Fire crews responded at the Huntington Harbour Bay Club condominiums while the Huntington Beach Fire Department’s Marine Safety Division dive team searched the harbor for any additional occupants. No one else was reported found in the water, and the driver was not reported to have suffered significant injuries.

The city describes its Marine Safety Division as the unit focused on beach and open-water safety, including emergency response, according to the City of Huntington Beach. That made Tuesday’s call a particularly local kind of emergency: a traffic mishap that quickly turned into a water-rescue operation.
