A stabbing call in Oxnard became a race against severe blood loss, with two officers treating a woman’s life-threatening neck wound before paramedics could take over. Nearly a month later, Officers Michael Madrigal and Nathaniel Rosales are being recognized for the response that helped keep her alive long enough to reach emergency care.
In a recognition post published Sunday, the Oxnard Police Department said Madrigal arrived first and found both the injured victim and a suspect still nearby. Rosales quickly prepared emergency medical supplies while Madrigal began providing care.
Madrigal applied direct pressure to control the victim’s severe bleeding, and the two officers continued treating her until emergency medical personnel arrived. Oxnard Fire Department Captain Daniel Landis said, in the department’s account, that the victim would not have survived the trip to the hospital without the officers’ immediate intervention.
What Happened During The July Stabbing
Police previously said officers responded around 9:30 p.m. July 5 to the 1700 block of Oneida Place after a report of a stabbing, according to the City of Oxnard. The 40-year-old woman had multiple stab wounds, underwent emergency surgery at Ventura County Medical Center and was listed in critical condition at the time.
The department identified the suspect as 33-year-old Oxnard resident Tanya Ramirez, who was located at the scene and arrested on attempted murder charges. Vida Newspaper also reported that officers provided first aid before the victim was transported for treatment.
Attempted Murder Case Remains Ongoing
Ramirez’s arrest is an accusation, not a conviction, and the investigation remains ongoing. The Oxnard Police Department said anyone with information can contact Detective Diego Estrada at 805-385-8291 or submit an anonymous tip through Ventura County Crime Stoppers.
