Nearly three weeks after BNSF Railway employees found a body near train tracks in Hesperia, sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the death as a murder. The victim was identified as Jorge Alejandro Quiroz Abarca, a 23-year-old man from Michoacán, Mexico. The person or people responsible remain at large.
According to an official sheriff’s notification, Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded July 16 after BNSF employees found a deceased male near mile marker 58.2. Investigators determined he had been shot, and the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division Homicide Detail took over the case.
Investigators Have Released Few Details
The public notice does not identify a possible motive, describe a suspect, or explain what led to Quiroz Abarca’s death near the railroad right-of-way. Officials also have not said whether the victim and whoever killed him were known to one another.
The incident is classified as a violation of California Penal Code 187, the state’s murder statute. The department listed homicide case number H# 2026-071 and report number DR# 072602394, while noting that the investigation remains ongoing.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling or texting We-Tip at 844-909-3006 or through the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s online reporting system.
No arrest or criminal charges were announced in the notice. Detectives are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity near the tracks on July 16 to come forward as they work to identify a suspect or suspects.
