A 21-year-old Corvette driver died after a high-speed crash at a New Braunfels intersection Saturday, leaving three other people hospitalized and a child critically injured. The three-vehicle wreck unfolded at Loop 337 and Oak Run Parkway just after 3 p.m., according to a preliminary account from Texas Department of Public Safety investigators.
According to KSAT, Nathan Verde was traveling eastbound on Loop 337 at a high rate of speed when the Chevrolet Corvette crossed the median into westbound lanes. The Corvette collided with a Dodge Ram turning onto Oak Run Parkway and a Tesla Model 3 stopped at the intersection.
One Child Was Airlifted To Austin
Verde was ejected from the Corvette, and first responders attempted to save his life at the scene before he was pronounced dead at a local medical facility. The Dodge Ram driver and 12-year-old passenger were taken to a medical facility in Kyle with serious injuries, while the child was later airlifted to Austin because of critical injuries.
The Tesla driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported for additional treatment, while a child passenger in that vehicle was not hurt. Debris also damaged a nearby Lincoln Navigator, but its driver escaped injury.
Crash Comes During Oak Run Intersection Improvements
Separately, the Loop 337 and Oak Run Parkway area has been undergoing a traffic-improvement project. Community Impact reported in June that the work includes roadway striping, sidewalk widening, an intersection realignment and drainage upgrades, with some lane restrictions expected through September and October.
The preliminary crash account does not identify the construction project as a factor. DPS said the investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details about possible citations or charges were included in the initial report, KSAT reported.
