The advisory runs through 7 p.m. Monday, with peak heat indexes of 106 to 112 degrees expected across parts of southeast Texas. For Houston, Monday should reach 99 degrees with a heat index near 107, and the NWS Houston/Galveston says the advisory may need to continue into at least Wednesday.
Little Rain Relief Before Thursday
Sunday will be sunny with only a small chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm, while Monday through Wednesday look mostly dry. Overnight lows will offer limited relief, settling near 80 to 81 degrees, and Monday night could bring south winds with gusts up to 20 mph.
The heat will be sharper inland than along the coast. Galveston is forecast to reach about 92 degrees Sunday, while Houston climbs to 101, a difference that may feel especially noticeable for anyone making the drive toward the water.
Slightly Cooler Temperatures Arrive Late Week
A modest change arrives Thursday, when Houston's high dips to 97 degrees and a 20% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms enters the forecast. Friday should reach 96 with another slight storm chance, followed by a high near 95 Saturday and a small chance of rain after 1 p.m.
Until then, the National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air conditioning or shade, and limiting strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
