Houston started Saturday with clear skies and temperatures around 79 degrees, but the brief morning calm will give way to dangerous afternoon heat. The high is expected to reach 99 degrees, with heat index values climbing well above 100.
Heat Peaks Saturday Afternoon
A Heat Advisory is in effect from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday across Houston and much of the surrounding region. The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston expects heat index values of 107 to 110 degrees, with locally higher readings possible near 112.
West winds around 5 to 10 mph will offer little relief during the hottest part of the day. Residents should drink plenty of fluids, limit time outdoors, use air conditioning when possible, and check on older adults, children and anyone working outside.
Small Storm Chance Saturday Evening
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives Saturday evening, mainly before 9 p.m., with a 20% chance of rain. A front may move through later in the evening, bringing a few gusts up to 20 mph, but widespread rainfall is not expected.
More Triple-Digit Heat Follows
Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high near 100 degrees, followed by another sunny day near 100 on Monday. Drier air may keep inland heat indexes below advisory levels Sunday, although coastal areas could remain more humid. Highs ease only slightly into the upper 90s by midweek.
